New perspectives from transferring students can be a big source of new insight into what students are seeking to study. As things were before, transferring students had their eyes set on different majors than where their original study schedule ended up, and the question of which of the non-transfer majors is the best fit for the student is usually easier said than done.

Now, though, the best choice might actually be transfer students themselves. Recently, we’ve seen a rise in transfer students applying to the same schools that they left in order to look for better match. There is a growing misconception among students that in order to be able to maintain their high academic standards, they need to be studying a different subject from the one they applied for.

However, when students look at our statistics and see that one out of five students transfer within three years of starting their course schedule, one might assume that transfer students are choosing their course of study based on the courses they currently have the best fit for. You can’t just assume that, because a student wants to continue working towards a higher degree, they would like to become a teacher or a science enthusiast.

Regardless of what academic program you’re currently working on, the best option is to start at the beginning of the process and apply to different schools to establish the best fit. In most cases, picking a major from the list of the school’s first application can be the best option. Based on this premise, we decided to provide data that quantifies the attraction and drawbacks of different majors for transfer students.

Being admitted at a desirable college does not guarantee that you will be able to make the jump to your desired field. Many students that submit an application are admitted at schools of some standard. For instance, although they have the basic math requirement for their course of study, they do not actually qualify for what they’re studying.

However, the same is not true for students that are admitted at schools that they did not apply to. Even if they have met the learning requirements and the initial requirements for the chosen course of study, they still would not qualify for the course of study they have been admitted for.

Nevertheless, this is often still enough of a motivation to make transfer students feel that their university would have a better chance of accepting their course of study. In the past, many students would usually take a slower path and apply to several schools to determine the best fit for them.
