How making kindness a priority benefits students

Over the past month, when I have had the opportunity to interview certain High School students, I have noticed how well kind thoughts and feelings have made a difference. They have not suffered from depression, anxiety, mood swings, or an increased desire to be social or anxious. They really do appear to be doing much better than they were before I met them.

Students from across the United States have written me about their experience with kindness, and they even connected this message to their scores of championship victories! Imagine how amazing it would be if all children learned about kindness and learnt the self-confidence and other qualities that come with being gracious, kind, kind and kinder.

The point being that kindness is a form of perseverance, and to learn to appreciate your individuality and the uniqueness of your life. By focusing on kindness, you create more tolerant individuals and improve self-esteem and confidence. As we grow older and gain knowledge and experience, we can find new ways to enhance our lives and make life more meaningful.

For example, if you are going to a big event that you don’t want to go to, think of the wishes of those friends that couldn’t attend. Sometimes, by making a big effort and being kind, you can focus on how you can make things better for others. Also, think about a time when you were able to make an effort and people responded. Try thinking of a time when you felt valued and respected in a positive way. Think about how being self-confident helped you to feel grateful towards others, even if they didn’t show it. Thinking about situations that might help you to feel more confident is great for improving your attitude.

Make Kindness a Priority

Since we are so small and dependent on other people, we must learn to help each other when we need it. Instead of looking to blame and feeling a sense of responsibility, we should consider how our actions benefit others. When you feel kind, you are becoming a compassionate person that can carry on this kind of attitude and practice it. You will feel happier, relaxed, and ready to face the challenges of life.

I want students to get the true idea of how making kindness a priority benefits them. Think about if you feel kind when you put on your makeup, go shopping, pay your bill at the bank, put on your best friend’s hat, pay a traffic ticket or even when your luggage needs to be searched at the airport. How important is it to you to feel this way?

What’s going to happen when we do not learn to be kind? We could start to feel like a burden on the society and we could feel like we need to do everything else to cover our differences and keep our differences to ourselves. That isn’t healthy and won’t help you survive in this ever-changing world. Making kindness a priority will also build up your confidence. It will help you to improve your self-esteem and self-image. While building up your confidence, your grades will also go up. This will help you feel a sense of worth and that you should be able to do more for yourself.

Becoming Kind and Going High

Kindness for the sake of kindness is the key. It’s hard to always feel kind. But the more you try to make kindness a priority, the easier it will become. When a girl at school wears pink handbags, does more than her fair share in class, and helps every other student, the teacher gets in the habit of thanking her. When a kid plays his instrument, then remembers to play it because he always sees his parents smile as he plays. When another student uses kindness to help his class participate in their lessons, he feels proud and grateful. When I begin teaching, my class is very small, and therefore I am often the first to be thanked when I finish.

That’s how kindness is a positive habit. When you feel kind, your attitude becomes positive. This will put you in a better position to accomplish more things for yourself. If you are asked to do something, such as watching a PSA for Kindergarten, you will know what to do, even if you have forgotten your instructions.
